Shaun Murphy left ‘terrified’ by the comment of the anesthetist before surgery | Another | Sport

Shaun Murphy has detailed how scared he was for the comment of his anesthetist moments before going under the knife. The 2005 Snooker World Champion slept to undergo two -hour gastric manga stomach surgery in 2022.

He said that three years ago he hit “Rock Bottom” and could not control his diet or drink. At that time he described the surgery of £ 11,000 as “that changed life” for his mental health. The procedure implies eliminating a large part of the stomach, limiting the ability to consume excessive amounts. The current teachers champion threw four stones in the three and a half months after surgery, but petrified as a result of one of the medical specialists in the room.

He explained to The sun: “You lie at the operating table. And then the anesthetist arrives, the important person in the room. I said: ‘How will I know if it worked?’

“He said: ‘Well, when I turn it on, you will have about 10 seconds of tops. In fact, you will feel that your arm begins and once it reaches your arm, it is here.

“‘Your cheek will begin to anticipate and then you will be out. I am here to take care of you. Don’t worry about that.’

“I started to get a little nervous. I started thinking about my children. I begin to think that these surgeries go wrong sometimes. Very rarely.

“You listen to these horror stories. I was a bit excited. The anesthetist consoled me.”

What Murphy was not prepared was his anesthetist, the last person he saw before going, joking about the resentment he held with the pool star as a result of betting on his games.

Murphy said: “But as my arm uploaded, he said:” Now it’s a bad time to tell you how much money I have lost betting over the years? Anyway, good night. “Build!

“I was absolutely terrified. Very fun. I never saw him again. He is still losing money, probably …”

Murphy has not looked back since four fifths of his stomach were removed, which means that now he is never hungry. The 42 -year -old says that he would lose even more weight if he cut alcohol to drink, but has traveled a long way since he felt depressed due to his diet.

“He had reached the bottom of the rock,” he recalled. “I could not control my diet or drink. I never went and they diagnosed me, but I would say that a professional would have diagnosed me depression.

“Actually, I had asked about undergoing that surgery many years ago, but I decided that I was too proud of that and I wanted to do it in the right way. I wanted to lose weight and exercise.

“I can consume much less than I used to power. I have put some weight from surgery. Just because I like a drink. If I hit the drink in my head, I would fall. I can’t eat excessively. It’s physically impossible.”
